Your friendly guide to doily patterns designing

The doily has been a heart-throb among crochet lovers for many decades now. Established as a modern form of art in the Victorian period of mid 19th century, it has evolved into a cultural symbol of 21st century. A kitchen is incomplete without a doily to keep the fruits on. The doily is the easiest form of crochet. Experts often advice, to start with doily making if anyone ever wants to master crochet art.  Here’s a short guide to help you with doily patterns.

  1. Material – Material is to making nice doily patterns as it is the first step. Before choosing material creates an idea of what size you want your doily to be? Or what purpose would it serve? Thread crochet is preferable than yarn, if you want to focus on details and make a nice old-style doily. Yarn should only be used for a bigger doily, to decorate a gloom wall or a door or to just use it as an exquisite door mat. An expert can try out gold thread doily, which is not as costly as one many assume.
  1. Patterns – For starters, make nice concentric circle doily patterns, interconnecting them by straight lines radiating from the centre. This is the easiest pattern to get started with. Gain a little experience and try to make bubbles spiralling into the centre, or a vintage doily with flower petals. Vintage crochert art always requires sharpness and yarn is not a great idea, stick with a fine quality thread. You can add a touch of modernity, with making nice upside down triangles meeting at the centre. But the angles are a hard to manage, so make sure you start with simple designs first.

Follow these tips and gift your friends and family, the perfect traditional good- old doily.
